Temple Anyasi joins TokataHQ as Research Collaborator

We’re pleased to welcome Temple Anyasi to TokataHQ as a Research Collaborator.

When technology does not properly support Igbo, the impact is not only cultural or technical. It can also have an economic cost. Creators spend more time doing work manually. Users switch languages or stop using certain features. Businesses may be missing opportunities to better serve millions of Igbo speakers.

Temple will help TokataHQ examine that economic impact and build the business case for better Igbo language technology, including the potential value technology companies may be leaving on the table when their products do not properly support Igbo.

As an economic consultant with experience conducting impact analyses for private investors and public agencies, Temple brings the kind of rigorous economic thinking that can help us put real numbers and business context behind #PutIgboInTech.

CapCut, Instagram and TikTok did not offer automatic captions for spoken Igbo in our tests

We tested the automatic caption feature in all three apps in September 2026. None offered captions for spoken Igbo.

For creators who make short videos in these apps, captions that appear automatically in other languages have to be typed by hand in Igbo. The results are in the tracker with their date. We will retest as the apps change.

Udochi is a software developer and co-founder of Mmụta Dị Ụtọ, which creates Igbo-language education and entertainment for children and families. Udochi brings hands-on experience building Igbo-language digital products and will help grow community engagement, outreach and participation in #PutIgboInTech.

Chris Emezue joins TokataHQ as Technical Adviser

Chris co-founded Lanfrica, which helps make African language resources easier to discover and use, and founded NaijaVoices, a large-scale speech data initiative covering Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba. He advises TokataHQ on speech data, language technology and research, linking the campaign to the technical work behind better Igbo speech recognition.
